Dirt Cake

A simple, no bake cake recipe that is so easy to make and is the perfect dessert for any gathering.

Ingredients

1 15 oz. package Oreos

½ cup butter (or margarine) softened

8 oz. cream cheese

1 cup powdered sugar

2 boxes instant vanilla pudding 3.3 oz size

1 16 oz. cool whip

3 cups milk

1 tsp. vanilla

Bowl One. Start by crushing 2/3 package of Oreos in a blender. If you do not have a blender place the Oreos in a Ziploc bag and smash with a rolling pin. Crush the other 1/3 of the Oreos to use as your reserve. You do not want chunks of Oreos; you want them completely crushed. You will know the texture is correct when the Oreos look like dirt.

Bowl Two. Next mix together the butter (or margarine) and cream cheese until smooth. Then add the powdered sugar and mix well. Set aside.

Bowl Three. Mix together the pudding, milk, and vanilla. After mixing well, combine this mixture (bowl three) with the mixture in bowl two.

There are so many variations on how to put the cake together:

You can place the crushed Oreos in the bottom of a 9 x 13 pan then pour the cream mixture over them, sprinkle the reserve crushed Oreos on top. If you prefer you could garnish with a few Oreo cookies. Put the cake in the refrigerator and let set for a few hours before serving. It can be stored up to three days in the refrigerator IF it lasts that long.

You can also make individual servings in small cups. Sprinkle the reserve Oreos on top or top the cups off with miniature Oreos.

To have some fun with the dirt cake, add some gummy worms to the top. Kids will love it.

You can prepare the cake in a Glass Trifle Bowl, layering the Oreos and cream mixture. Make sure the top layer is the Oreo mixture. When layering you could hide a few gummy worms between the layers to add some excitement when serving.

If you want to do something special for the kids, you can make the cake in a plastic sand bucket by layering it, make sure the top layer is the crushed Oreos. To add some fun, serve it with a plastic shovel.

Another fun idea for the kids, is to make individual serving cups, again make sure the top layer is the crushed Oreos, then decorate by placing a small toy on top, perhaps a car or truck, or a little tree and a dinosaur or a little dog or cat.

Going to a Hawaiian theme party, make the cake in individual serving cups, layering with the crushed Oreos on top and place a little plastic palm tree on the side.

Want to make someone a special cake that includes a gift? Purchase a small, nice planter to put the cake in then place an artificial plant or flower in it. For Christmas use an artificial poinsettia. After the cake is gone the person has the planter to keep.

Let your imagination run wild and come up with some fun and exciting ways to serve this unique cake.
