Dog Wellness: Is Human Food Safe for My Dog?

Once in a while, we feed our dogs with what is on our plates. But, have you ever wonder if what we are giving is safe for our fur babies? The truth is, no matter how safe human food is, some of them aren’t beneficial to our pets. Dogs may even experience food intolerances and allergies as some human food can be toxic for them.

To know more, we have listed these top human foods that are safe for our pets.

CARROTS

Carrots are loaded with health benefits that are not only good for humans but our canine pets as well. Carrots are rich in vitamin A which is good for their eyesight, helps improve skin and coat health, and strengthens their immune system. Munching on a carrot is also beneficial for their dental health as it helps remove plaque buildup on their teeth keeping their teeth clean.

COOKED CHICKEN

Cooked chicken is also good for our dogs. It is rich in protein necessary to build muscle mass, facilitate their growth, and provide them ample amounts of energy. Chicken also contains an amino acid that helps promote healthy bones and antioxidants to boost your dog’s immune system.

EGGS

Eggs are a good source of calcium that helps promote strong bones and teeth. They also contain amino acids essential for protein production that aids in tissue repair and strengthen your dogs’ hair coats.

FISH

Fish is another source of protein that we can give our fur babies. It contains omega-3 fatty acids that help reduce inflammation, boost their immune system, and helps maintain a shiny and healthy coat. Salmon, herring, and whitefish have low levels of mercury and are safe for dogs to eat.

GREEN BEANS

Green beans are a good source of calcium, iron, protein, and vitamin K. They are loaded with vitamins and minerals and are great snacks, especially for overweight dogs. Green beans can be served with no added salt or seasoning.

RICE

Rice is a good source of carbohydrates that our dogs can eat. Rice contains low amounts of sodium and is beneficial for dogs who suffer from hypertension. Cooked rice can be fed daily.

YOGURT

Yogurt contains probiotics that help promote digestion. Dogs can be given frozen yogurt to keep them cool during summer or can be given on normal days as a treat. Just like milk, yogurt contains the calcium necessary to promote teeth and bone health.

While most of these human foods are found to be safe and nutritious for our dogs, they should be fed in moderation as too much of these can still lead to health issues. Ensure that they maintain a healthy and balanced diet to help improve their quality of life.

Also, it is best to consult a veterinarian before giving human food to dogs with health conditions like weight issues, diabetes, food sensitivities, and other health concerns.
